THE SCIENCE
Infrared Light interacts with your body's tissues in a way that helps them heal faster through a process called photobiomodulation. As photons enter the tissue, cellular metabolism speeds up, which in turn accelerates the healing process. The red and near-infrared light from the laser gets absorbed by your tissues, particularly by a part of your cells called mitochondria, which are considered tiny powerhouses in cells.
This stimulation of mitochondria leads to an increase in ATP, which is a molecule that provides energy to your cells. This energy boost helps to widen blood vessels and improve blood flow to the treated area, increasing vasodilation and micro-circulation to your injured, aging, or damaged cells. All of this combined, advances natural healing at the cellular level.
As a result, damaged tissues can better get rid of waste and receive important nutrients like oxygen, protein, and sugars that are essential for healing.

FAQ’s
What will I feel in the session?
Gentle warmth from the laser. We have both contact and non-contact heads available to attach to the laser. The contact heads feel more like a massage with heat. Non-contact heads feels more like waves of heat.
Are the Brown Rogers Therapy lasers good ones?
We have the best laser currently available for conservative treatment. As of time of purchase in 2024, our clinics and LSU football were the only 40-Watt lasers in the Baton Rouge area. LightForce® therapy lasers are cleared by the FDA and adhere to strict ISO standards to provide you with a safe, non-invasive treatment option and effective alternative to drugs and surgery.
What does 40 Watts do?
We can treat all conditions, especially those in larger areas, like low back or hamstring pain/strain in much less time than lower-wattage lasers. Higher powered lasers allow clinicians to have the versatility to treat injured tissue in multiple areas in a given session, which greatly improves the overall effectiveness of the laser when adding it to a plan of care.
How Long is the Session:
Typically, 5-10 minutes total with 2-3 min per body area for laser time.
Can I do laser therapy with an open wound?
Yes, we use the non-contact head of course!
How many sessions are recommended?
The nature of the condition will play a key role in determining how many treatments will be needed. Most laser therapy plans of care will involve 2 X week over 3-6 weeks, with more treatment needed for longer standing, chronic conditions.
What are the contraindications to laser therapy?
DO NOT USE OVER an active cancer area, the pregnant uterus, area of infection, growth plates in children, pacemaker or a pain pump site.
DO NOT USE with patients who have autoimmune disorders (that are sensitive to laser light), or renal failure (due to vasodilation from infrared light) .
Can laser be used over metal/implants?
Yes, laser can be used over metal implants/ hardware. At the irradiance levels used with LightForce equipment, light will simply bounce off metal. There will be no heating that takes place at depth when using LightForce® lasers within recommended parameters.
